GOLD STAR SPOUSES OF AMERICA INC.
Resilience through Remembrance.

Our Causes

Gold Star Spouses are rooted in education, advocacy, remembrance and volunteerism, ensuring that the legacy of our fallen heroes live on through meaningful action.

Advocacy amplifies  the voices of survivors, working to shape policies that improve the lives of military families and ensure they receive the benefits and recognition they deserve.

Education empowers ourselves and fellow Gold Star Spouses by offering membership scholarships, leadership workshops, and self-improvement courses. We also provide support through online networks and local community chapters, fostering connection, growth, and resilience.

Volunteerism allows us to give back to our communities, offering support to fellow survivors, active-duty families, and organizations that uphold the values of service and sacrifice. By championing these causes, we honor our loved ones and strengthen the military and civilian communities that stand beside us.

Remembrance is at the heart of all that we do.

Gold Star Spouses Day, observed annually on April 5th, is a day of remembrance and recognition for the husbands and wives of fallen service members. These spouses have endured the ultimate sacrifice, losing their loved ones in military service to the United States. The day serves to honor their resilience, strength, and the profound loss they carry while also acknowledging the lasting impact of their sacrifice on families and communities.

The term "Gold Star" traces its origins back to World War I, when families of service members displayed flags with blue stars to represent those serving. If a service member was killed in action, the blue star was replaced with a gold star, signifying their ultimate sacrifice. Over time, this tradition evolved into a formal recognition of the families left behind, including the spouses who continue to uphold the legacy of their fallen loved ones.

On Gold Star Spouses Day, various events, ceremonies, and acts of gratitude take place across the country to ensure these individuals are not forgotten. Organizations, military groups, and communities come together to offer support, share stories, and remind Gold Star Spouses that they are not alone in their grief. It is a day of both sorrow and solidarity, where the nation expresses its gratitude for those who have given so much.

This day is an opportunity for all Americans to pause and remember the sacrifices made by military families, honoring not only the fallen heroes but also the spouses who carry their memory forward with courage and grace.
